Bake Off star to appear at Northampton Winter Food Festival

17th October 2016

Bake Off star Howard Middleton will lift the lid on the show’s secrets when he takes part in the first Northampton Winter Food Festival next month.

Howard hit the headlines during the fourth series of The Great British Bake Off when he became of the victim of what the national media dubbed ‘Custardgate’.

He put a bowl of custard in the fridge but when he returned, it had vanished. It transpired another contestant had taken and used it.

Howard will be grandstanding on the chef demonstration stage on both days of the festival and providing his behind-the-scenes insights.

He said: “I’ll be chatting away as I cook and I’m also happy to take questions from the audience. It’s a great way of passing time while I’m whisking!”

Howard, who learnt to bake as boy with his mother, will make his crunchy nut carrot cakes and one of his festive recipes, sticky figgy puddings, at the festival.

His appearance on Bake Off launched a career as a cook and food writer and he is now a regular on the spin off show ‘An Extra Slice’.

He published his first cookbook ‘Delicious Gluten-Free Baking’ last year and will sign copies at the festival.

Organiser Crispin Slee said: “We have a fantastic line up on our chef demo stage. As well as Howard, we have some fabulous local cooks, Michelin star chef Phil Fanning and Jen Charlton, who was a Masterchef semi-finalist this year.

“Howard’s sessions are great. They are a must for any Bake Off fan. He’s very entertaining and offers a captivating glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes.”

Northampton Winter Food Festival is a celebration of artisan produce with more than 70 food and drink stalls, a street food market, tasting workshops, and foodie talks.

It takes place under cover at The County Cricket Ground in Abington Avenue on November 12 and 13. There will be free parking in Abington Park. Adult tickets are £6 in advance of £8 on the day. Children over ten years are £3.
